Matsebe – Female Leopard

I have begun my painting for one of the entries to this year’s David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Exhibition that will be held at the Mall Galleries in London in May.

We had followed this stunning leopard for quite a while and at one point walked past the vehicle I was sitting in before she strolled through the grass to climb the tree. Using it as a lookout for the prey that was around. She turned to look at me just before leaping to the ground in pursuit of an Impala, but wasn’t quite quick enough – probably too many vehicles around . This is very much work in progress as I develop the painting. I have also changed her eyes so that they are as realistic as possible. The painting is in pastel and is approximately 70cm x 50cm
