August 12th marks World Elephant Day.
Despite the ongoing efforts to tighten up the ivory trade these beautiful animals are still being hunted to the verge of extinction. Today is just one day where we can stand together and say, enough is enough!
I have always been fascinated with Elephants from my early 20’s, when my Grandmother bought back a cinerole she took of Elephants at a watering hole at the Hwange Reserve, Zimbabwe. Sitting watching that, with the young Elephant Calfs enjoying themselves was a memory that has stayed with me throughout my adult life. Memories only further enhanced with seeing these majestic animals for myself while on Safari in South Africa.
I always find great joy in painting and drawing Elephants.
