Judith's Motivation for Painting Wildlife
Originally my focus and inspiration for my paintings had been on British and African Wildlife, but gradually through my visits to The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, Marwell Zoo in Hampshire and Cotswold Wildlife Park in Gloucestershire I became acquainted with the Amur Leopard, the Sumatran Tiger, the Snow Leopards and Asian Lions. I love all of these big cats that are sadly on the IUCN Red List of Endangered animals. I also came to know Marwell’s Asian Short Clawed Otters. All four are very distinctive and have wonderful characters. My discovery of these animals gave my painting a whole new experience and wonderful subjects to paint.
It didn’t stop there as through the ABUN Group I discovered the beautiful Macaws of Brazil, the Macaques of Sumatra and the delightful and much abused Slow Loris. ABUN is dedicated to bringing worldwide public attention to the plight of these animals and encouraging local people to learn to respect and live alongside their wildlife and I am delighted to be a part of that process through my paintings.
